Defining point in the journey

Assalam alaikum guys, So I have come to a bit of a realisation this week. Post the nichhero programme it has been really tough settling back into daily life. Back to work, back to people who are not all stars, and maybe not even in the duck category! The challenge now is how to work with people who have potential but need support to get them there.

One of the things I realised recently when speaking to my all star partner is that we as muslims need to be role models in society so taking the ethics and morals of islam and applying these we can be Outstanding Role Models in everything we do. From how we go to the supermarket to how we raise our kids. We are only here for a short time so lets go for being the best citizens of this world and that may motivate our colleagues. Nichhero just gives the skills to do it, but you need to apply or time and money was all wasted!

PS- All star- definition- someone who is a total star, has initiative and is an inspiration. Duck- definition- someone who just waddles along without too much aspiration.

Friday

The power of Friday

Today I was due to go to a conference for work and take my son for his first day at school. Before I went away I was poisoned with all the Toxicity of life and decided that the conference was more important than my son. What is really interesting for me is that during the first few days of Nichehero I kept talking about how I wanted to keep my job, and that I could apply all the learning and these skills to my work and then just continue to excel and be amazing and be their hero. . .

Man, I got a lesson or 2! During the programme I realised what was really important in life and no matter how much we try and deny it (yes deny it!) Allah is the provider. So why did I want a successful career and make all those sacrifices for my own kids, to make a difference to the lives of others? One of the most profound lessons I learned, which may be hard for those reading this to digest is that there are difficult choices to make in life and often the hardest ones are those where you have to be selfish.

Today, I have spent much of the day reflecting on the jummah salat I attended last Friday- it was truely awesome and mashaAllah I was in the best of company. Today, I am at home just wishing I was back there, but you know what there will be others and the power of Friday is to have hope and be decisive inshaAllah.

Postcard from Canada

So, when I told my husband I wanted to do Nichehero- he was like ok, if you want to you have my full support. Then I asked about the money, he said dont worry, if it makes you happy, just do it. Then I was scared of telling my mum- sure she'd say no. . . she helped me to find somewhere to stay. Then there was work. For various reasons I had to come to Toronto at that specific time anyway. Then there was my kids- what would they be like. 'Just make sure you buy me presents', said my daugher; my son said ' I want to watch TV'. Ok then so no obstacles.

And then there was my mind. . . with all the other stuff going on did I really want to go to Toronto to deal with leadership issues as well as my own personal ones? Man, of course I did.

So here I am and you know what I am missing London and the family. . . I am missing my kids. . . I am enjoying seeing the rest of my family and will struggle to say goodbye for various reasons but most of all I am loving being part of a Ummah that is just out of this world and transends any fear I had.

Now for me to continue to take action. . .
